What keeps you up at night?

EMBRACING CHANGE PART 2

It happens to all of us in some periods of our lives when we wake up at night, and the first thing that comes to mind is the problems of the day, the debts, the fights we had in the past, or the possible conflicts that we must face in the next day.

But there are also periods in which we wake up at night knowing that there is something in our lives that must change, something that is not right, something that perhaps we are not clear what it could be, but deep down, we intuit or have that feeling that we are adrift on an issue that we must address and that we owe to ourselves.

It can be a pattern that repeats itself, a habit that catches our attention, or even some unhealthy dependence, such as addiction to a substance or emotional reliance on a person.

The fact that you wake up in the night can overwhelm you and leave you with little energy for the day ahead, so we have even less desire to do anything about it. We may even resort to that toxic habit to cover up or numb what afflicts us and thus avoid thinking about what keeps us up at night, repeating this unhealthy daily cycle.

So, when is it time to say enough is enough?

What has to happen for you to take charge of what is happening to you?

At one time in my life, I didn't want to see a toxic habit that plagued me. Instead of looking it in the eye to address it, I abused it even more to cover up how bad it was doing me. In the short term, I avoided thinking about the consequences. In the medium term, I covered its adverse effects by all means, and in the long term, it affected my relationships and, at worst, my self-confidence and my ability to move forward.

If you wake up at night thinking about that trait or habit that afflicts you, you have already passed the first step of being aware that something is happening. The second step is to gather courage, take matters into your own hands, and seek help. Depending on the issue that concerns you, we can always count on our support network to help with advice.

I am eternally grateful for those close to me and for having encountered life coaching that helped me recognize my strengths to face my issues and look for the necessary tools to take action. Life coaching is not the only solution to what ails us, but it will help us see the right path and draw up a plan in small steps that do not overwhelm our progress or stop us in the search for our long-awaited inner peace.
