What good is it for me to know myself?

Talking with a friend about life coaching, I told her how it had been a before and after for me. She explained that to her had revealed the truth about who she was and what she wanted from life.

A very famous tarot card is the Wheel of Fortune, which, beyond bringing luck, tells us about life that goes up and down. Sometimes good things happen to us, and other nasty things happen. When this card appears in a spread, it shows us that destinies change, even temporarily; the wheel never stands still; it is always in constant motion, like life.

If we are on the edge of the wheel, as in a spinning carnival ride, we are more likely to fly off and get hammered. But if we are in the center of the wheel, it is more likely that the sudden rise, or fall, will not affect us as much.

So how do we manage to keep our center? If we know ourselves well, if we know what our triggers are, we can better prepare ourselves for change. If we can scan our bodies and find the physical location of tension or stress, we can also understand what gives us peace of mind.

But if you don't know your limitations or don't fully understand how your stress works, how will you self-regulate in the face of anxiety? What do you compensate with if you don't know where it's staying? Maybe with food, alcohol, anxiolytics, etc. Which can help you temporarily relieve anxiety, but you are only numbing your inner side.

I couldn't understand what was bothering me so much about my life in the past, but I knew something was wrong. The level of anxiety and aggressiveness were taking their toll on me every day, I felt that I was unhappy, but I didn't understand how to be happy or make myself happy. I gave that responsibility to my environment, family, work, and my ex-partner.

By working on my self-knowledge, I understood that unhappiness came from within me, that I was the only one capable of making myself happy, alone or accompanied; I couldn't make anyone else responsible for feeling good, even feeling bad. Thanks to life coaching, I found the triggers of my anxiety to understand it, and I began a path of self-regulation that has accompanied me ever since.

And you, do you know what takes you out of your center? Do you know how to regain your inner peace? If you resonate with this article, let's connect!
