EMBRACING CHANGE P.1

In many positive catching phrases, we often hear the saying "Change is inevitable, but growth is optional." Let's explore how true this statement is.

Sometimes we actively seek change in our lives, such as looking for a new job or pursuing a new project that interests us. We may also seek change in our personal lives, such as taking the next step in a relationship or moving to a new city or country, as I did.

However, there are also times when change happens unexpectedly, and we find ourselves being swept away by the waves of life. For instance, we may not have intended to move houses, lose our jobs, or end a relationship that was no longer working.

In some cases, even when we wanted the change, unforeseen consequences may arise, making the transition difficult. For example, the new job may not meet our expectations, or a move to a new country may dampen our enthusiasm.

So, what can we do in such situations? Do we give up, or do we fight back? The renowned American poet, Maya Angelou, recommends that we either change the situation if possible or change our attitude towards it.

But is changing our attitude that easy? The answer is not simple. However, if we know ourselves, including our beloved strengths and fearsome weaknesses, and learn how to regulate our negative emotions, change, whether desired or not, may become manageable. On the other hand, if we perceive ourselves as victims, our environment will dictate our emotions and reactions.

Personally, I have experienced many changes in my life, some of which were drastic, such as my parent's divorce when I was eight, moving to a new city when I started college, and quitting my engineering job to travel the world, to name a few. Some of these changes I sought, while others came unexpectedly, leaving me disorientated and vulnerable. It was only after learning life coaching tools that I was finally able to navigate and embrace change with a healthier and more organic approach.

How do you cope with change? Do you resonate with this article? Let me know, and let's connect.
